San Diego Pro-CathedralDon Jose Ledesma, a sugar baron, donated a substantial amount of money to fund the construction of this church. He commissioned his friend Lucio Bernasconi. The Italian architect patterned San Diego Pro-cathedral from Saint Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. The cathedral was started in 1925 and was completed and inaugurated in 1927.
