The San Diego Pro-Cathedral of Silay City
A very important landmark in the heart of Silay City is San Diego Pro-cathedral, the only pro-cathedral outside Metro Manila. A pro-cathedral is a parish church that is temporarily serving as the cathedral or co-cathedral of a diocese [Wikipedia].
Don Jose Ledesma, a sugar baron, donated a substantial amount of money to fund the construction of this church. He commissioned his friend Lucio Bernasconi. The Italian architect patterned San Diego Pro-cathedral from Saint Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. The cathedral was started in 1925 and was completed and inaugurated in 1927.
