Romantically called as the eighth wonder of the world, the Ifugao Rice Terraces are a majestic stairway to heaven.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site can be found in four towns, namely, Banaue, Mayoyao, Hungduan, and Kiangan.
In Ifugao, the rice terraces are located in the town proper and in the villages of Batad and Banga-an.
The rice terraces in Batad village offers a different experience for tourists. For one, each visitor has to negotiate a long trek going to the village from the saddle.
Then the winding trails lead to the majestic Tappiyah Falls which offers the visitors a relaxing dip.
The serenity and laid-back life in Batad makes the trip all the more memorable.
By virtue of Presidential Decree No. 260, the Banaue Rice Terraces as a whole was declared by President Ferdinand Marcos as a National Cultural Treasure on August 1, 1973.
How To Get There:
- From Manila: take any Banaue-bound bus of Ohoyami.
- From Banaue: take a jeep or tricycle going to Batad Saddle.
- From Batad Saddle: embark a challenging trek going to Batad village.
