One of the most enduring legacies of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos is the San Juanico Bridge. Stretching at a total of 2160 meters over the San Juanico Strait, it connects the islands of Samar and Leyte. The east terminus is in Sta. Rita, Samar while the west terminus is in Tacloban City. Started in 1969 and completed in 1973, it can be said that this segment of the Pan-Philippine Highway System (Asian Highway 26, AH26) was a gift of Marcos to former First Lady Imelda, who is a native of Tacloban City. If you are coming from Tacloban City, the bridge bends like a letter L; if from Samar, it is S-shaped.
