Bacarra Church and the Dignified Domeless Bell Tower

One of the enduring landmarks of the Augustinian friars is the Church of Saint Andrew the Apostle in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte. Together with the bell tower and the convent, the church was built in 1593 and inaugurated in 1782.

Church of Saint Andrew the ApostleAlong with the church, the beautiful belfry was destroyed by the in tensity 7.8 earthquake on August 17, 1983. It caused the dome to fall down thus gaining the romanticized title Dignified Domeless Belltower in Asia.

Museo de BacarraBy virtue of Presidential Decree No. 260, the Church of Saint Andrew the Apostle was declared as a National Cultural Treasure by President Ferdinand E. Marcos on August 1, 1973.
