Chasing Waterfalls: Lumundo Falls
Location: Brgy. Budlingin, Alegria, Surigao del Norte
Types: Segmented, Fan horsetail
Only the second waterfalls that I have seen in already five stays of traveling around Northern Mindanao and the Caraga Regions, the waterfalls in the hinterlands of Alegria, Surigao del Norte proved to be a worthy destination. After an approximate two kilometers of habal habal ride, I found myself hiking with my stuffed bag on my back. The motorcycle cannot negotiate the slippery and muddy road.
Standing at about 30 feet, Lumundo Falls is inside a 22-hectare community watershed which falls under the National Greening Program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. At the time of my visit, the segmented Lumondo Falls released a massive amount of water, crushing into the moss-coated boulders.
From the forked road, I turned left and after a hundred meters, I gradually descended on a concrete stairway which reminds me of Kinaraha Falls in Almeria, Biliran. On a Sunday afternoon, there was no other person in Lumundo Falls and I felt it was all mine at least for a fleeting moment.
