1. Completing the 80 provinces and 60 cities
I still have a few provinces left to explore. And I want to re-discover other interesting places, events, and people groups in previously visited provinces. Can’t get enough of them. As for the cities, I have limited it to those chartered before 1975. In this activity, I hope to see and explore countless national cultural treasures, national heritage houses, national shrines, national historical landmarks, national historical sites, national geological monuments, national parks, important cultural properties, archeological reservations, museums, war memorials, Spanish lighthouses, watchtowers, capitols, city halls, and more!
2. (Inter-) Island Hopping
As an archipelago, the Philippines is composed of 7,107 magnificent islands. I plan to explore at least 50 major and minor islands in 2013, criss-crossing the entire archipelago.
3. Surfing. Surging. Surfari.
It’s about time to conquer the waves! Short board. Long board. Wakeboard. Wind surfing. Kitesurfing. Blue Lagoon in Ilocos Norte. San Juan in La Union. Baler in Aurora. Pundaquit in Zambales. Bagasbas in Camarines Norte. Boracay in Aklan. Calicoan in Eastern Samar. Dahican in Davao Oriental. Cantilan and Lanuza in Surigao del Sur. See you as I charge against you!
4. Scuba Diving
There are at least 20 dive sites in Calamian Group of Islands. I have been itching to dive in one of the ship wrecks, lakes and bays in Calamianes. Malapascua, Moalboal, El Nido, and Samal are in my list. But then I should work out and save to get my diving certificate.
5. Seeing (More) Cetaceans
I have sighted humpback whales and bottle-nosed dolphins the past two years. I want to see more species of these giants. A trip to Babuyan Group of Islands, Pamilacan Island, Tañon Strait, Pulupandan in Negros Occidental will help me accomplish my goal. I should also add in this list the whalesharks in Donsol or Oslob and the seacows in Busuanga.
6. Deep / Open Sea Fishing
Time to pack my rods and lines as I have identified Sta. Ana in Cagayan, West Philippine Sea, Sulu, Sitangkai in Tawi-Tawi as my locations for this activity.
7. Mountain biking
I’d love to push the pedals in and around Batanes, Bohol, Sagada, and Siquijor.
8. Trail and road running
If I can’t join any races because of my hectic schedule, I would do some trail and road running anyway. I know there are a lot of great, scenic and challenging places to accomplish this project. I have done this before in Twin Lakes of Balinsasayao and Danao, in Coron, and in Laoag City. With that, I can put some activities and finished goals in my RunKeeper.com account.
9. Bird Watching
I have a growing interest in bird watching. I have done a bird watching trip on February 1, 2012. Maybe I can revisit Pulupandan and Danjugan Island. For new places, I have listed Murcia and San Enrique in Negros Occidental, La Mesa Dam, Olango in Cebu, and Candaba Swamp in Pampanga. Maybe there are other sites worthy to be included and visited.
10. Chasing more waterfalls
By far, I have only visited a paltry 42 waterfalls around the country. I have long ways to go. This year, I plan to visit and explore at least 50 new waterfalls. Such a very ambitious project!
11. Conquer more peaks, mountains and volcanoes
Two major climbs and 12 day hikes are in my bucket list. If we push through with our plan to conquer Camiguin’s seven volcanoes in March, that would help me closer to my goal.
12. Conduct more fund-raising drives and outreaches
The Philippines has experienced natural disasters every now and then. In 2012, the Intensity 6.7 earthquake in Negros and Cebu on February 6, the habagat-induced flooding on August 1-8, and recently, Typhoon Pablo have caused tremendous amount of losses of lives, properties and livelihood. Publicly and openly, I should be more diligent in conducting fund raisers and in launching and supporting outreach projects.
13. Attend more Victory churches around the Philippines
In 2012, I have attended the Sunday Services of VCF churches in Bacolod, Dumaguete, Tacloban, Davao, and Baguio. This year, I plan to attend the services of at least six Victory churches, specifically in Zamboanga, Pagadian, Dipolog, Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, and General Santos. So, I should be praying for more group tours in Mindanao this year. I won’t be disappointed if I will be accomplishing this goal somewhere else.
The lofty goals require huge amount of time, logistics, and other resources. But I believe that these things can be done as I set my heart and mind into it. I hope you can join, support and pray for me in one of the listed activities and goals I have for 2013. God bless us all!
