What do Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite, Guingona Park in Butuan City, and Plaza Libertad in Iloilo City have in common? These places were where the Philippine flag was first displayed in Luzon, Mindanao, and Visayas, respectively.

Plaza Libertad in Iloilo City The Philippine flag was raised immediately in Plaza Alfonso XII when the Spanish authorities surrendered Iloilo to the revolutionary forces of General Martin Delgado on December 25, 1898.

Within the plaza is a monument of Dr. José P. Rizal which was inaugurated on December 30, 1917.

Plaza Libertad in Iloilo CityOn November 17, 2003, the National Historical Institute declared Plaza Libertad as a national historical landmark.
